Any thoughts on the new Expansions from Native Instruments? As is often the case, the demo tracks sound great for very many of them. Turns out, most if not all of these are the expansion packs for Maschine, now repackages in Battery format, and with extra 'construction kit' loops, which I assume are just prerecorded snippets from the drum/sample kits themselves. The promise of new drums that are already well-paired with several synth sounds is appealing, but I'm not sure if it's worth $50 a pack. I posted the original question, and wound up not buying any expansions.

On YouTube I was able to find reviews for the previous packagings of the libraries. If you search for Maschine + 'library name' you'll find the old reviews. It looks like mostly the same content (same sample files and instrument presets). None of the old reviews really compelled me, and for $50 a pop it was too big a risk to just find out it's a few kicks/snares/etc and some standard bass/lead/pluck sounds. For context, though, I've got a ton of drum libraries and Diva preset libs, etc. The reason NI Expansions interested me (and I'm still looking for this) is a one-stop place to bring together various sounds.

The pack is a good mix of genres with some older and also some more recent expansions. I find most of the EDM stuff to sound pretty much the same regardless of which sub-genre it says it's for (I'm not really into a lot of EDM).

I tend to do more ambient electronica type stuff so Prismatic Bliss works for me for that. For hip-hop I reckon the newer Basement Era sounds better than the included Queensbridge Story (which I own).

So whilst it's a good mix of packs and a good cross section I wouldn't say it's an outstanding collection. Of course we all will want different sounds for different things but personally I'd pick a very different set for me.
